I am not entirely sure which side of the sleep spectrum I fall under. While I definitely know I have a tendency to stay up way too late, which I guess would make me a night owl. I also can get going bright and early without a whole lot of boosting. I have never been a coffee drinker and Mike and I sometimes talk about the fact that if neither one of us drink coffee is it necessary to own a coffee maker for our “guests” when we have our own home. While I think the consensus […] Continue reading →
Hey Everyone! It has definitely been more than awhile since I have written at this point, but I am finally done with PhD/grad school applications as well as my nutrition pre-requisites and will be able to be back to blogging!! You have no idea how beyond excited I am to have a more manageable schedule that will allow me to get back into the things I love, like this little blog. Something else that is new since I last checked in is that I am now working for a really cool Wellness Consulting […] Continue reading →
Hey There! I am sure you guys are noticing a few new things going on over here, the main one most likely being the blog re-design and name change which I just released about a week or so ago. While I loved my original “maknwaves” title a lot of really exciting things have been happening over here these days and I just knew that I really needed to change my brand name to something that really exemplifies me, my lifestyle, and would be a name that I could grow with. So enter Eat […] Continue reading →
Wow it has been FOREVER since I was able to sit down and write on maknwaves. I sure have missed it! But don’t you all worry I have not forgotten about you and definitely have no plans for stopping blogging, I just have had a pretty crazy month and a half to say the least. Let me fill you in on what has been going on… For close to a year now I haven’t been very happy with my corporate America marketing business job. While I do love marketing/design/advertising I […] Continue reading →
I am the queen of salads! You know how some men are the King of the Grill or Barbeque? Well I am the queen of the salad. They literally make up so many of my meals that if I didn’t love them, and know how to make them delicious and exciting, I would really have a food boredom problem on my hands. Instead over the years I have mastered the art of delicious and exciting salads. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a boring lettuce, cucumber, and tomato salad that left me […] Continue reading →
On Mothers Day there are probably a million different places where you could bring your Mom for a full on sugar coma brunch, but why not try something different this year and start your Moms day off right with a delicious and healthy at home brunch. Maybe consumed after you treat her to a nice morning hot yoga workout at a local studio? I’m not a Mom but that sounds like a perfect morning to me, and I’m pretty sure my healthy and fit Mom would agree. I have compiled a bunch of […] Continue reading →
I am the queen of creative salads! Since some form of a salad usually takes up one or sometimes even two of my daily meals I need to do a pretty good job of keeping things creative to keep from getting bored. It is also really important to make sure when having a salad for a meal that there is some kind of protein or healthy fat in it to keep you from being starving an hour later. That is a mistake I made early on in being a vegetarian and quickly figured out how to change. Since I […] Continue reading →
When Mike and I were in Bali one of their staple desert’s or it could also sometimes be seen at breakfast was Black Rice Pudding. Basically Black Rice Pudding is just black rice mixed with a little bit of coconut milk and coconut or palm sugar. Since we had been served black rice only in its sweet pudding form it never even occurred to me that you could make Black Rice as a substitution for the common White or Brown Rice. But why not? It also got me thinking that if Brown Rice was […] Continue reading →
I have never actually really gotten into the show “The Biggest Loser” but this year I did manage to catch a few episodes and was actually pretty surprised by what I saw. Before watching the show I had heard all of the different controversial opinions surrounding the premise of the show but didn’t really have an opinion of my own until I saw a few episodes. I thought that I was going to be disgusted by yet another reality TV show, but instead I actually found it to be […] Continue reading →
O smart phones what did we ever do without them! Honestly, I really think that I use my iphone way more than I even use my computer. One of my favorite aspects of having a smart phone is how simple it can be to stay healthy with what seems like a million different apps, catered to exactly what it is you need and are looking for. I use my iphone for everything from exercise tracking, to food shopping, to recipe ideas. Having a multitude of resources at the palm of my hand has been very […] Continue reading →
