I am sure that I am not the only one out there who has bought tomato’s in December or Strawberries in January only to get them home and discover that while they may LOOK appetizing there is absolutely no flavor. And without any flavor the argument can be presented that there probably isn’t very much nutritional value as well. It’s common sense that something which is grown artificially in the wrong season, or is grown 2,000 miles from where it is actually going to be […] Continue reading →
I am on another lettuce wrap kick which actually is working out perfectly while I am participating in my Spring Clean Eating Challenge. This challenge basically means that for 30 days I am eliminating all dairy (except eggs) grains, legumes, vegetable oils, processed foods, and added sugar. I have to say that while I thought this challenge would be difficult it really hasn’t been at all and I have found myself to be really enjoying it. For last nights dinner we decided to go the Fish […] Continue reading →
While living the Paleo Lifestyle grains are considered to be off limits. Instead, we are supposed to fill our meals with nutrient rich fruits, nuts, vegetables, and meat protein to curb the need to overdose of carbohydrates. When we eat this way our bodies begin to use the fat we have stored for fuel, rather than immediately using the carbohydrates we consume from grains. While fruits and vegetables do consist of carbohydrates they are not nearly as carbohydrate dense as most […] Continue reading →
Even though Spring and Summer have yet to really arrive here in the Northeast, I have been itching to break away from the packaged and canned products from the grocery store and get back to making things fresh like I do mostly all Spring and Summer long. When I got to thinking about one of my favorite Italian sauces, dips, or spreads…I am talking about you PESTO, I realized that this particular item is something which really can be made year round. Since herbs tend to do great […] Continue reading →
I am not entirely sure which side of the sleep spectrum I fall under. While I definitely know I have a tendency to stay up way too late, which I guess would make me a night owl. I also can get going bright and early without a whole lot of boosting. I have never been a coffee drinker and Mike and I sometimes talk about the fact that if neither one of us drink coffee is it necessary to own a coffee maker for our “guests” when we have our own home. While I think the consensus […] Continue reading →
I will be the first one to admit that when I first started seeing these green juices and smoothies jumping out all over the place I swore that there was no way they could taste good and the whole juicing frenzy had to be some kind of fad that would go away with time. Well about two years and a vitamix later, juicing seems to be still in full swing and now I am a converted green juice skeptic who loves to see what my beloved vitamix can whip up for me. The keys I have found to juicing […] Continue reading →
Lately my life has been pretty chaotic to say the least. Between my wonderful new job working at Lululemon (with some amazing people), school work, graduate school applications, and teaching yoga I have a very packed schedule these days. While I may not be feeling my very best at the moment due to a head cold, I have to say that I am absolutely loving my new life and choice for my career. It is amazing how many things have just fallen into place since I made the decision to leave my […] Continue reading →
One of the biggest transitions for me when I first went gluten free was trying to break myself away from the staple American lunch item, “the sandwich”. It is fair to say that I may have shed a few tears over my loss of french baguettes, warm ciabatta rolls, and yummy spinach wraps…what can I say I loved myself a good sandwich. I did give it the good old gluten free try though and made many attempts at recreating some of my favorite sandwiches with various pre-made […] Continue reading →
I am the queen of salads! You know how some men are the King of the Grill or Barbeque? Well I am the queen of the salad. They literally make up so many of my meals that if I didn’t love them, and know how to make them delicious and exciting, I would really have a food boredom problem on my hands. Instead over the years I have mastered the art of delicious and exciting salads. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a boring lettuce, cucumber, and tomato salad that left me […] Continue reading →
If you haven’t tried my deck of cards circuit workout you really need to! Find a time sometime this week or weekend to set aside about an hour to an hour and a half and I promise you will be crawling your way back to your car it is such a good workout. My favorite part about this workout is that it keeps things creative while really taking you outside of your comfort zone. In my own personal fitness experience I have always gravitated to the types of fitness that I feel comfortable in […] Continue reading →
