I am sure you have figured out by now how much I love the beach, so it should come as no surprise when I tell you that my interior design style, specifically in bedrooms, is very beachy. While beachy bedrooms are very popular I actually think that it can be pretty difficult to really get the room done right so that it exudes from every corner the feeling of summer, sun, cool breezes, and calming waves. Since I recently re-did my bedroom to fit this very theme I thought I would share with you some of my tips is creating the perfect beach bedroom oasis.
DIY Beach Bedroom Tip #1: Choose the right color palette. For my bedroom since I only have two windows coming from one end of my room, I decided to keep the walls and furniture all white and accent with ocean colors in other various elements around the room. However, all white walls may totally not be your thing so take a look at my tips and the color palette below to see if you can find a palette that will match your needs.
DIY Beach Bedroom Tip #2: Choose calming, flowing, fabrics. When you think of the beach you think of linen, sun dresses, soft beach towels, and all around light fabric. So when choosing the fabrics for your room keep those feelings in mind. Try and choose fabrics that aren’t too dark or heavy and don’t be afraid to mix and match textiles. I have three different textiles on my bed from my duvet cover to my pillow shams. The different fabrics make my bedding look much more interesting than if I had tried to make sure everything matched exactly.
DIY Beach Bedroom Tip #3: Don’t forget about your accents! Accents really can completely change the feeling of a room so don’t forget about them just because you have all the big stuff out of the way. By adding a light earthy rug and some bamboo shades the feeling in my bedroom went from almost being beachy to feeling as if I had just landed myself on the shore. I also added some plants like bamboo and a fresh vase of tulips to give the room a calming natural feel.
DIY Beach Bedroom Tip #4: Accessorize. Accessorize. Accessorize! This is similar to adding accents but on a smaller scale. I am talking about literally accessorizing your space by adding small pieces that while could go unnoticed, will completely finish off your room. Check out some of the examples I share below!
Hopefully by this point you will be well on your way to becoming a skilled beach decorator. Trust me if you follow all of my tips, the finished product will leave you feeling calm and at ease every time you enter your room. And if you like the beach as much as I do you may never want to leave the new space you will have created.
