I am Sicilian, not Italian, Sicilian. That was something which became very clear when I was living in Italy. Italians are from the mainland and Sicilians are from Sicily, the largest island off the Italian coast. While technically Sicily is part of Italy throughout history Sicily was so segregated from the rest of Italy that it grew to form a very strong identity of its own. Because of this Sicilians will always remain Sicilian first, and Italian second. When I was living in Florence I […] Continue reading →

When I was living in Florence a friend and I decided to ditch the city for the day and take a little road trip over to Siena, a much smaller and quaint city close to Florence. While small Siena is actually on of Italy’s most visited attractions and is very well-known for the Palio, a horse race, which takes place twice a year. I have to say that our day in Siena while absolutely perfect, the weather was sunny and warm and my friend Christal and I just had a great time listening to […] Continue reading →

amalfi-coast-villas

The Almalfi Coast really was a stunning place to travel to and I would highly recommend it to anyone. When I went to the Almalfi Coast we originally took a bus to Sorrento and then from there we went on to explore the surrounding areas as well as Capri and Pompeii. On our first day in the Almalfi Coast we decided to take a boat over to the island of Capri, but unfortunately the day wound up being pretty overcast so my pictures don’t really hold much justice to the beauty of the […] Continue reading →

City of Water

P1000168

Since I am currently on a bit of a traveling hiatus while my bank account is trying to re-build itself from our Bali trip, I figured I would finally finish posting some of my past trips and I don’t think that there could be a better place to start-up again than in Venice, Italy. The best way to describe Venice is my opinion is that the buildings are prettier than people, they make you stop in your tracks and your jaw drop. They make you feel like just looking at them you are hearing […] Continue reading →

skiing!!!! (40)

When I moved abroad the one thing I knew I had to do was go skiing in the Swiss Alps. Since I grew up in New England my sisters and I learned how to ski when we were each around 5 years old, but the White and Green mountains (which are where we ski in New England) I knew were going to be very different from the Swiss Alps. The mountains in New England are steep with very narrow winding trails going in and out of the trees. However, in the Swiss Alps the elevation is much higher and the [...] […] Continue reading →

I am half Irish and half Italian and since I grew up in a very very Irish Catholic town I kind of clung to my Italian side to make me feel different. With that being said I decided to study abroad in Italy in order to really get a grasp on my Italian heritage, and learn my grand parents language. When I decided to book my 10 day trip to Ireland to visit a few of my best friends who were living there I honestly didn’t expect it to really make much of an impact on me. Boy was I [...] […] Continue reading →

I think one of the most spontaneous trips I ever took was my trip to Greece. I was living in Italy at the time and my friend Hannah and I decided that was wanted to go to Greece for a week over Easter Break. We actually weren’t able to get on the same flight but were going to be arriving around the same time in the airport in Athens. Since we didn’t have international cell phones we figured that we would just hope for the best and find each other in the airport once we landed. […] Continue reading →

When I lived in Italy I actually went back to visit Spain on two occasions and spent in total almost an entire month in the country. There was something about Spain that just drew me back over and over. Maybe it was because the culture reminded me somewhat of Italy, or maybe it was because one of my best friends was living there. Either way I kept coming back for more. While in Spain I actually spent most of my time in a smaller city outside of Madrid named Alcala de Heneres. Alcala was a […] Continue reading →

Like I have mentioned before I have a serious nack/obsession for trolling the cheap flight deal sites and finding great deals at a moments notice. This past Christmas I was starting to feel my travel bug start to creep up again so I began searching for flights anywhere. Anywhere that wasn’t New England. It was then that I stumbled upon an amazing flight deal to Ireland that I just couldn’t pass up. I had already been to Ireland once before when a few of my best friends lived […] Continue reading →

Mi Amore Mio

Amore

When I lived in Florence, everyday as I walked to school I walked right past this graffiti art. The phrase is simple and can be translated into any language but for some reason I just think that anything said in Italian sounds just a little bit prettier…and more romantic. What do you think? Buongiornio Amore Mio, or Good day my love […] Continue reading →
