With the ridiculously high temperatures we have been having lately I think it may be about time to break out the nautical inspiration. Just in case you happen to find yourself on the side of a sailboat, needing to look effortlessly fashionable and camera ready, you should probably be wearing this. If you are invited to a yacht club party you can rock this. You can paint your nails like this. You can lounge on the beach, looking like a perfectly put together pinup girl from the 20s in this. So I am kind of having a hard time deciding exactly what I want my Easter Outfit to be this year and would love your feedback. I have narrowed it down to the following two options with an assortment of shoes and accessories. So please feel free to voice your opinions in the comment section and let me know whether you prefer “This” or “That”. Also if you follow my makwaves facebook page there is an amazing Kate Spade of New York deal that I posted! OR Let me know […] Continue reading →

Exciting news everyone! Maknwaves has now launched an Etsy store! This store will feature a lot of DIY projects that I feature on the blog for sale or custom order in case you don’t feel like making them yourself, as well as a long-awaited inventory of my homemade jewelry for people to purchase. These pieces can also be custom-made. For years now I have been giving away my homemade projects, crafts, and mostly my homemade jewelry to friends and family members because I LOVE giving […] Continue reading →

easter outfit

I am so excited that it looks like we are going to be having a beautiful and somewhat warm Easter weekend! While the temperatures may not be flying into the 80′s like they were a few weeks ago, I will gladly take a nice 65-70 degree sunny day. As long as I can pull out one of my Spring skirts or dresses and thrown on a light cardigan I will be happy. But what makes the perfect Easter outfit? Remember it should be Grandma and Church appropriate, but that doesn’t mean it […] Continue reading →

Less is More

jewlery

Less is more. This is a phrase that as I have gotten older I have grown to have a much better understanding of, but sometimes it can still be hard to do. It’s the phrase that all of our moms uttered to us at one point or another regarding a specific makeup or wardrobe choice…most likely this was followed up by a seriously serious eye role on our behalf. I was recently reminded of this phrase and my own fashion mishaps when I was in the dressing room the other day. While I was […] Continue reading →

beads

I think I have posted before about how I love to make jewelry and Ubud was the perfect place for a jewelry designer. There were bead stores everywhere. You could tell that a lot of people come to Bali to import the beads and jewelry so some stores were actually pretty pricey but I wound up finding a few stores that were a bit off of the main road which were absolute steals! I wound up buying two long strands of fresh water pearls for about 7 dollars. Although I definitely bought my fair […] Continue reading →

Hi Everyone! Hope you are enjoying your Friday! Here is another Fashion Friday post to start your weekend off with some new style ideas. What I am loving right now has everything to do with accessories. Maybe it is the jewelry maker in me but I believe that a lot of times our style would have a lot more flavor to it if we designed our outfits around our accessories, rather than vice versa.  Why don’t you give this a try this weekend when you are going out to lunch with your […] Continue reading →

I love jewelry and what I love even more is making it myself. I am absolutely not your fine jewelry design kind of girl. Which works out in the boyfriends favor since it saved him some money but I do love eclectic, chunky, colorful, and unique pieces of jewelry which is why I love designing my jewelry myself. No one piece ever turns out the same and the process is so relaxing I hardly ever buy jewelry from a store anymore. If I do it usually comes from a cool consignment shop or a boutique […] Continue reading →

Holy Color

il_570xN.259793884

Recently I found this Australian jewelry designer Emily Green on Esty and have totally fallen in love with her. The necklaces may look simple but this woman has a serious understanding for color which is so important when it comes to being a good jewelry designer or artist. I also love how she showcases all of her jewelry designs with a watercolor painting as the backdrop. I think they provide a perfect description of how she came to her design. The backdrops in themselves are works of art. […] Continue reading →

I think you may have realized by now how much I love the ocean, so it is no wonder that I love seaglass. As a little kid I used to collect a ton of it and as I have gotten older I have used it for jewelry, art, and even decoration. This past weekend for our two year anniversary Mike bought me the most perfect ring! No not a diamond…but a yellow seaglass ring wrapped in sterling silver. If you know anything about seaglass you know that yellow is a very rare color to find and with […] Continue reading →
